What to Consider When Choosing a Fire?

2 October, 2013

A fireplace can be the perfect finishing touch to your living space. When choosing a fireplace, there are many different factors that you need to consider. As well as the obvious aesthetic issue, the size, quality and safety of your fireplace need to be exactly right.

The cost of the fireplace is also of vital importance, not just for the installation but for the running of the fire itself. There is no point having a beautiful fireplace installed if it’s going to be too expensive to maintain. That’s why we’ve come up with a comprehensive guide to buying a gas fire.

As well as the look and price of your potential fire or fireplace, there are a range of different types of fires available. From electric to gas fires, wall-mounted to insets, each type has their benefits, and choosing one can be difficult.

Inset Fires:

Inset fires are a great starting point for transforming any living space. Available in gas and electric models, they come in a range of designs and prices. With their sleek design and versatile placement options, an inset fire can easily become the focal point of any room, so make sure you choose wisely!

Wall-Mounted Fires:

If space is at a premium, then a wall-mounted fire can be the perfect solution for you. Subtle, versatile and available in many different styles, a wall-mounted fire will only serve to boost the look and feel of any room it is placed in. We have a variety of styles available to suit the aesthetics of your living space.

Suites and Fireplaces:

A suite is the whole package for your living space. With a fireplace suite, as well as the fire itself you get the mantle, fire surround and back panel. You can mix and match the different parts of your suite to make sure it co-ordinates perfectly with the design of your room. We have a range of both marble and wood surrounds, so you won’t be short of options.

Electric:

Electric fires are the easiest to install in your home. The majority of electric fires will be ready-made when you purchase them, and you will be able to fit it yourself. They provide a beautiful flame effect that will add that little extra something to your living space. Our electric fires are high-powered, and aren’t restricted by their size, meaning you can place them in the ideal spot for you.

Gas:

A gas fire provides the look and heat of a coal fire, but without the mess. With a fuel efficiency rate of up to 89%, and available in both contemporary and traditional designs, a gas fire could be the perfect addition to your home. Like electric fires, most gas fires will come ready-built, but fitting them is not as simple as an electric fire. It is best if you hire a Gas Safe Registered fitter to install it for you. If a fire isn’t properly installed, something could go wrong and that could be financially damaging, and also very dangerous. To find out more about registered fitters, simply visit us in one of our showrooms, or contact one of our team and we’ll be happy to help.

Cost:

To calculate how much your chosen fire will cost to run, simply find out your fire’s heat input and multiply it by your gas or electricity provider’s tariff. Our team will be happy to help you with any queries you may have.

Installation:

Once you’ve decided on your fire or fireplace, the next step is the installation. Some fires can be installed yourself with relative simplicity, but others, such as gas fires, will require a professional. When finding someone to install your gas fire, you must check that they are Gas Safe Registered.

At The Fireplace Studio, our accredited engineers have a wealth of experience and will install your fire or fire place to the highest standard. To find out more, simply pop into one of our showrooms, or contact us via phone or email, and we will be happy to help!
