Three Modern Fireplace Designs

14 October, 2014

With the variety of fireplace types available, there are also countless designs and styles to choose from. Of course, the suitability of these designs often depends on the interior décor of your home, but it’s always helpful to know of the options available to you.

Keeping it Simple

Minimal fireplace designs that ensure a subtle focus on your fireplace are very popular – these may include hole-in-the-wall or inset fires, as they can fit flush with the wall or chimney breast, minimising the amount of space they use. The relative minimalism of the fireplace itself means that it will often complement most colour schemes and design styles.

Combining Fire and Art

As the chimney breast is often quite a wide, flat surface, it can be a perfect place to hang any artwork or photographs on. The artwork can complement the fire perfectly, or even enhance the appearance of it if you feel like the fire itself isn’t the most attractive part of your room. The artwork or photograph doesn’t have to be particularly colourful, it just adds to the otherwise open space above your fire.

Extra Details

You don’t have to add a new fireplace to improve the look of the room in your home. Some simple upgrades to your existing surround and fireplace can make a whole world of difference to your room, from the aesthetic to the atmosphere that guests experience when they walk in. An easy addition, such as fairy lights or garlands can add an extra element to your fireplace.

Multi Task

Your fireplace doesn’t simply have to be a visual aspect of your home – hole in the wall fires can be built into other lower, flat surfaces. This can be perfect for installing a fire on things like standing bars or room dividers, where the top can still be used for other functions. This leaves another wall free, allowing you to maximise the space in your room and improve the atmosphere for your guests. This will also give your room a different feel, making it stand out against other, more common choices of fireplace.
